The Scottish fashion company is back in business.

After ceasing trading in 2020, Crombie has been acquired by new owners Crombie 1805 Ltd.

Backed by private investors for an undisclosed sum, Managing Director Gordon Richie said:

“Our aim is to inject a new energy into Crombie, raise the profile globally and broaden the perception of the brand. We are open for business and interested in collaborations, partnerships and licensing agreements across all territories and categories.”

Crombie was founded by John Crombie and his son in 1805, making it one of Scotland’s oldest brands. Listing King George VI, Winston Churchill, Cary Grant, Dwight D Eisenhower and John F Kennedy among its historic customers. Actor Jack Nicholson wore several styles of Crombie coat in his role as The Joker in Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman movie.

During his tenure as The Doctor in Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi wore a Crombie Coat and sales went up 100%, a success story Gordon Richie would like to replicate.

“We look forward to creating the next chapter of the Crombie story, so it can continue to thrive for the next 200 years.”
