Speeding ahead: Triumph Motorcycles launches first E-bike

While gyms remain closed and travelling on public transport continues to be advised against - and, rather more cheerfully, as summer is now in full swing - many Londoners are currently looking to invest in a smart bike to get them from A to B, whether it's a jaunt in the sunshine or restarting the commute back to the office.

Single-track vehicle specialist Triumph has just the thing, having recently broadened its renowned line of signature British motorcycles with a new foray into the world of electric bikes (to the uninitiated, e-cycles are also very on-trend right now). 

As Triumph's inaugural e-bicycle, the Trekker GT is designed to deliver the same high level of smooth control and performance engineering that goes into the brand's acclaimed motorbikes. It features a 6061 hydro-formed aluminium frame with integrated lockable battery, complete with a cutting-edge electric drive that weighs a mere 2.88kg. The bike is powered by a 250w 60Nm torque-rich Shimano powertrain that comprises a motor and battery, with each charge capable of reaching distances of 150km - more than sufficient for a day's outing, even for the keenest of riders. 

What's more, the design looks rather swish. Powertrain components are concealed within the frame, creating a sleek, minimal silhouette that's enhanced by a narrow-width handlebar and ergonomic Selle-Royal Vivo saddle. Triumph fans may recognise the twin-paint scheme in branded shades of Matt Silver Ice and Matt Jet Black, while blacked-out details add a contemporary touch across such elements as the wheels and pedals. Snazzy features include integrated LED lighting, full-length matte black mudguards, blacked-out pannier rack, side stand and an ABUS pro-shield integrated lock.
