3rd June 2025

Sun’s out, suede’s on. Crockett & Jones welcomes the season with the Summer Suede Collection—three timeless styles, lightened up with soft hues and the debut of a gum rubber wedge sole. It’s heritage shoemaking with a summer state of mind.

Presented by Crockett & Jones

As the season turns to linen shirts, chino shorts, and slip-ons, Crockett & Jones introduces a fresh palette of soft suede hues—an elegant addition to the summer wardrobe. The Summer Suede Collection features three classic designs, each reimagined with subtle innovation for the warmer months of 2025.

At the base of this evolution is the introduction of a new gum rubber wedge sole—a first for the brand. But while the sole brings a lighter, more relaxed sensibility, the craftsmanship remains firmly rooted in tradition. Each pair is meticulously handcrafted in the Northampton factory, from sole to upper, every component passes through the expert hands of artisanal shoemakers, preserving the integrity of construction while embracing seasonal ease.

This isn’t a departure from what Crockett & Jones do best—it’s a confident step forward into a fresh new season. Meet Tresco, Salcombe 2, and Chukka 4: three enduring styles, thoughtfully reworked for life in the sun.

Tresco

Tresco may look like your classic Oxford at first glance—laced up, low-cut, and suitably proper—but this one didn’t come here to follow the rules. Reworked for warmer weather, Tresco has shed its formality in favour of something altogether more relaxed. Gone is the rigid structure of its dress-shoe heritage; in its place, a soft suede upper, unstructured construction, and the newly developed gum rubber wedge sole. It’s still Goodyear-welted and handcrafted, but the toe stiffener has been omitted, and shoulder insoles lend natural give for a flexible, easy fit. Available in Khaki, Pistachio, or Pastel Blue, slip on the Tresco to tread over the cobbles of Lake Como and kick up with an iced glass of rosé.

Salcombe 2

The original Salcombe loafer was a summer icon in its own right: unlined, lightweight, and unfussy—built for Riviera strolls and off-duty elegance. Salcombe 2 takes everything that worked and adds a little structure. Fully lined for just the right amount of form, this version gives the wholecut suede upper subtle shape, while a box-stitched apron brings a touch of refined detail without taking away from the minimalism of the design. Finished with the new gum rubber wedge sole, the Salcombe 2 strikes a balance between polish and ease within the realm of laid-back luxury.

Offered in Snuff, Pistachio, and Desert Suede, it’s the shoe equivalent of dressing up without making a fuss. Crafted with repello suede, which is treated during the tanning process to be water repellent, Salcombe 2 is not afraid of a little splash. Chukka 4

The third of the Summer Suede Collection remains on theme with a similarly easygoing charisma. Say hello to Chukka 4, based on Crockett & Jones' long lineage of three-piece, ankle-high boots, this version is built on the new Last 394: slightly asymmetric, with a deeper forepart and a heel that fits like it was made just for you (because, well, it sort of was). It’s unlined, cut from rich Reverse Butt Suede and finished with the gum rubber wedge sole for grip.

So, what kind of effect does Reverse Butt suede give? Much like Reverse Calf, it's made from the reverse side of the cowhide, allowing it to be fully dyed through. This results in rich, vibrant colours often not achieved with other types of suede, making it especially suitable for coloured finishes. Reverse Butt comes from a slightly larger animal, giving it a thicker feel and a slightly longer nap—ideal for more casual styles like the Chukka 4. Available in Olive, Dark Brown, Indigo, and Taupe.
