Our picks of the week for bars, exhibitions, theatre, shopping and film.

Art: Ma by Boo Saville
‘Ma’ is artist Boo Saville’s most personal show to date, incorporating her renowned colour field paintings and detailed drawings with a narrative that draws on her own reflections on motherhood and journey of involuntary childlessness. ‘Ma’ is a Japanese expression which describes the “space in between, a deliberately empty space but one which holds significance.” (like the silences and pauses between musical notes, for example). ‘Ma also, of course, means ‘mother’ and the exhibition takes on this double meaning of both empty space and motherhood.

At The National Theatre is the story of the man who murdered Mahatma Gandhi, Nathuram Godse, who shot Gandhi in the chest three times at point blank range at a multi-faith prayer meeting in Birla House in New Delhi on 30th January 1948. This the play traces Godse’s life over thirty years during India’s fight for independence: from a devout follower of Gandhi, through to his radicalisation, the assassination and the subsequent aftermath.
Described as “Gripping” by the The Guardian and “Exhilarating” by the Financial Times, director Indhu Rubasingham (The Great Wave) reunites with Anupama Chandrasekhar, one of India’s most exciting playwrights, for this exploration of oppression and extremism.
