Staged at the heritage watch manufacturer’s Old Bond Street boutique, a new exhibition celebrates excellence in feminine timepieces within the world of haute horology

Though Covid-19 has left many of 2020's usual watch shows cancelled or postponed, horology enthusiasts will be delighted to discover that Vacheron Constantin is staging a special exhibition throughout September at its Old Bond Street store. Celebrating two centuries of women's watch design, the event showcases a curated selection of outstanding feminine timepieces from the Swiss brand's Heritage collections.

Women have a long and interesting history in the world of watches. The first ladies' pocket watches came about at the turn of the 18th century, for example, while it is recorded that women were wearing watches on their wrists long before men adopted the practice in the first half of the 20th century.

Vacheron Constantin's exhibition puts the spotlight on a number of models from the 1800s and 1900s, demonstrating the evolution of feminine timepieces as well as a range of different models. Standouts include a Gala sapphire and diamond-set gold braided mesh bracelet watch from 1960, complete with baguette-cut blue sapphires that are bezel-set on either side of the case to inspire a look of butterfly wings (above) and the ornate 1899 Tea Time diamond-set and enamelled yellow gold pendant brooch watch (below), which was designed to be worn like jewellery.
