The arrival of the Christmas season is often met with excitement and, let’s be honest, a little chaos. Between the endless shopping lists, office parties, and the pressure to be "sparkly”, it’s easy to lose sight of what this time of year is really about. So, why not escape for the weekend and enjoy the Christmas magic on a quick luxury getaway?

Bruges, Belgium

Coined as ‘the Venice of the North’, Bruges comes alive when the cold winds blow in. With scenery so unbelievable, it's hard to believe it didn't come out of J.M.W Turner painting. This city remains one of Europe’s best-kept secrets. On the topic of hidden gems, The Notary, a luxury hotel situated in the heart of the city’s historic canal district, acts as a serene retreat, embracing the sublime charm that defines the city itself.

And when it comes to festive cheer, the Christmas Market is just a 7-minute stroll away. Here, the canals and cobblestone streets are transformed, with stalls brimming with artisan crafts and seasonal treats. Whether you’re exploring the market by day or soaking up the magical lights by night, it’s the perfect stay for this elegant getaway.

Bath, Somerset

Home to Jane Austen and boasting a rich history, Bath has yet another gem to add to its list. The Royal Crescent, a gleaming relic of Georgian-era architecture and timeless grandeur, is the epitome of festive luxury. The grandeur of the exterior may speak volumes, but inside, the warmth and charm conjure scenes of a perfectly cosy Christmas retreat. Bathed in the scent of burning wood and mulled wine, the hotel is a must-visit even if only for a night.

Nestled inside the heart of the city is Hotel Sans Souci Wien, a haven of quiet luxury and warmth amid the chill of the season. With service so attentive that the staff seem to know your name before you’ve even checked in and stunningly effortless interiors, this hotel promises to make you feel just as cherished as the city itself.

Why not explore local cuisine and sip mulled wine underneath the glow of fairy lights. And, if the market gets overwhelming (like the feeling of being stuck in Oxford Street at high noon on a Saturday), tuck into Sipsong Bar, a Thai-inspired bar where a white jasmine negroni can help take the edge off.
