BBC releases first trailer for the follow-up to Rooney’s hit romantic drama Normal People.

BBC Three have unveiled the first trailer for Irish author, Sally Rooney’s adaptation of her debut novel Conversations With Friends, ahead of its May release date.

Starring newcomer Alison Oliver, Joe Alywn (The Favourite), Sasha Lane (Loki) and Jemima Kirke (Sex Education), Conversations with Friends follows the story of Frances (Oliver), a 21 year old college student, as she navigates a series of relationships that force her to confront her own vulnerabilities for the first time.

The 12-part drama, co-helmed by Normal People and Room director Lenny Abrahamson and His Dark Materials director Leanne Welham.

Sally Rooney’s last novel, Beautiful World, Where Are You, released in September 2021 won several literary prizes with the New York Times calling it her ‘“best novel yet”.

Featuring similar themes to her previous work such as romance, love quadrangles and friendship, don’t be surprised if another TV adaptation of her work appears a couple of years down the line, especially if Conversations with Friends matches or exceeds the success of Normal People.

Conversations with Friends is due to be released on the recently re-launched BBC Three in May.
