There's no better way to Scotland in style than with a trip on the world-famous Belmond Royal Scotsman, combining fine dining and luxurious comfort with the rugged beauty of the Highlands

This summer, those after a staycation with a difference should look no further than luxury travel group Belmond. In amongst their world-famous collection of hotels, trains and river cruises, a trip on the Royal Scotsman (previously the Orient Express) is a standout choice for a UK-based break, offering guests to enjoy old-world luxury whilst they take in a scenic tour of the Highlands.

After being greeted with live bagpipes and a chilled glass of Laurent-Perrier, guests embark the sumptuously appointed train. Decorated in subtle gold details and purple tartan, the interior is reminiscent of another era - and with the intentional lack of Wi-Fi, guests can fully embrace the concept of relaxation. No Netflix, no emails - just conversation and sightseeing.

There are a few Royal Scotsman packages to choose from, such as the Grampian Discovery, a train created with golfers in mind. Rather than staying on board for the majority of the day, there is the chance to explore. Lunch is provided in historic castles dotted along the highlands. For those not wanting to golf, excursions include looking through private gardens and exploring stately homes.

Once back on board, travellers are greeted with a cocktail and invited to relax awhile before the evening meal. This allows time for a massage or facial in one of the newly added Spa Cars. Around 7.30pm, guests - dressed for dinner - head to the observation car for canapés and champagne.

Despite being produced in a moving, tiny kitchen, the evening meal is spectacular, with three courses created from delectable locally sourced produce.

After the meal, guests have the opportunity to return the Observation Car for live entertainment inspired by Scottish culture.

There's much more to discover - after all, Belmond is known for being the best of the best, and the Royal Scotsman is no exception.
