Buy Fashion Sandals for Summer 2023 in... February? Hear Us Out.

9th February 2023

Why are we suggesting you buy your summer sandals in February? It's a good question, but let us explain the reasoning.

Fashion houses release their spring/summer collections throughout February and into March, which means the most desired pieces in summer collections are usually released in the coldest months of the year. Makes no sense, but luxury brands also release their best winter clothes in August, which is why your most fashionable friends get excited about making coat purchases in the height of summer. Go figure.

All this translates quite simply: if you want to ensure you get the accessories you want for the warmer months, now is the time to make your purchase.

As we are supporting the Rule of 5 on SPHERE - which backs the idea that if we make five carefully considered fashion choices per year, we not only make excellent and long-lasting wardrobe selections, we limit our climate impact - every pair featured here are sandals you'll be able to reach for year after year. You can thank us later.

Marni Sandals
Fussbett leather slingback sandals, £590, Marni on Net-a-Porter

Marni have always played an A-star sandals game. This pair come in the fresh grass-green hue that promises to be one of the key shades of summer 2023. However if this feels too trend-led, they also come in dark denim, black and white.

Whichever colour you choose, these are sandals you'll be reaching all summer, and for every sunny holiday for the years ahead. They've been made in Italy from butter-soft leather and have wide crossover straps. The slingback buckle matches the gold hardware at the toes.

Prada's Flatforms
Prada Flatforms
Nappa leather flatforms, £850, by Prada

Since designer Raf Simons teamed up with Miuccia Prada to work on the Prada collection, the Italian luxury house has re-ignited its core business, and used its iconic logo, in a way that makes the collections ultra-desirable all over again.

These sandals follow the trend for raised soles, but given this is Prada, the execution is distinctively modern, and our Prada.

When Balenciaga Met Crocs
Balenciaga x Crocs
Balenciaga x Crocs logo-embossed platform slides, £460, from Matches Fashion

Granted these may look something of an anomaly. How can Crocs be fashion, even with a treatment by Balenciaga? The evidence speaks for itself: these shoes are already selling fast. The selling points are, no doubt, the instant fashion statement they make in green (these also come in white and tan),  but also the comfort factor. While they feature the platform of the season, these are Crocs at heart, wildly popular for their supremely comfortable moulded rubber sole.
