The 21 metre tree will be created outside of Buckingham Palace

A ‘Tree of Trees’ sculpture, created by Heatherwick Studios, will be erected outside of Buckingham palace during the forthcoming Jubilee celebrations in June 2022.

The 350 trees will be set in aluminium pots. After the event, the trees will be gifted to community groups and organisations. The Queen herself as planted over 1,500 trees during her 70 year reign and the Queen’s Green Canopy Initiative as inspired people to plant over 1 million trees during it’s first season.

Heatherwick Studios is headed by Thomas Heatherwick, designer of the Olympic Cauldron, the new Routemaster buses and the failed Garden Bridge project. Asked about the sculpture, Thomas said.

“It’s an honour for us to be making the Tree Of Trees. The structure, created from 350 British native trees and recycled steel, is coming together from workshops and nurseries across the country as one part of an incredible community campaign that’s literally changing the landscape of our nation.”

Recently Heatherwick designed another tree-based project, the '1,000 Trees' development in Shanghai which opened its first phase to the public late last year.
